Black Country Connected Programme
Black Country Connected Programme
Do you wish you could use the internet but you don’t have a computer or smartphone?
The Black Country Connected is an NHS-run programme that allows you loan a Geobook laptop for three months to get online and:
- Access healthcare information and appointments via the NHS app
- Explore education and employment opportunities
- Access mobile banking or online shopping
- Stay connected to others through social media and emails
Our computer experts will give you the training you need to use the device and explore the internet. You can also contact us to learn more about free online courses and free IT courses offered by colleges across the Black Country to improve your digital skills.
If you get on well during your loan period, you may have an option to keep your device. All that is asked of you is to complete a short survey to provide us with feedback and help us to understand people’s digital skills better.
To find out more information, contact the programme lead Emma Sharman on 07977 948 895, email [email protected] or visit blackcountryconnected.co.uk.
The NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB) Digital Inequalities Programme, ‘Black Country Connected’, brings together people from health and care organisations as well as the community and voluntary sector. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the rapid deployment of digital tools across health and care services, but we recognised these tools would only be effective for our population if we provided the necessary training and support.
Our programme provides a Geobook laptop and connectivity for those who don’t have internet access at home, as well as a dedicated support service to manage the referral process and distribution. This included delivering training in using a digital device, giving people the confidence and skills necessary to use digital to enable them to access health and care services such as the NHS App, other healthcare apps and online healthcare services.
